CforC Partners with D.C.’s Eastern Senior High School
EASTERN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL RE-OPENED in the fall of 2011 as a “re-imagined” school after an extensive $77 million renovation. Open only to 9th grade students (the Class of 2015) for the 2011-12 school year, it will grow by one grade each year as they “strategically design a rigorous, well-rounded high school experience for every student.”
Companies for Causes is proud to be part of this foundation for success. We chose to partner with Eastern, its students and staff to support their goals of having all students meet or exceed D.C.’s reading standards by graduation, and to have 100 percent of the Class of 2012 graduate.
We’re helping stock the school with new books and custom book shelves; we’ve celebrated students making the Honor Roll; we’ve welcomed Eastern’s students into our offices to share career experiences with them. And, that’s just the beginning…
CforC’s efforts are in line with supporting the District of Columbia Public Schools’ five-year strategic plan and their five major goals:
1. Improve Achievement Rates
At least 70% of our students will be proficient in reading and math, and we will double the number of advanced students in the district.
2. Invest in Struggling Schools
Our 40 lowest-performing schools will increase proficiency rates by 40 percentage points.
3. Increase Graduation Rate
At least 75% of entering 9th graders will graduate from high school in four years.
4. Improve Satisfaction
90% of students will say they like their school.
5. Increase Enrollment
DCPS will increase its enrollment over five years.
“We will facilitate the resources, negotiate partnerships with nonprofit supporters, mentor and tutor students and parents, cater meals, and fund and coordinate enrichment field trips and summer camps.”
